Big Almaty lake

It is a mountain lake located in the gorge of the river Big Almatinka, at height of 2511 m above sea level, 28.5 km South of Almaty. It is situated in the cavity like a shining mirror, surrounded on all sides by mountain peaks. Above the lake rise the three main peaks, the peak Councils (4 317 m), lake peak (4 110 m) and the peak Tourist (3 954 m) – they can be seen from the North end of the dam. To the West from the peak of Tourist is the crest of the Big Almaty peak (a pyramid with a height of 681 m 3), which is clearly visible from the city centre.
