Big Almaty lake It is a mountain lake located in the gorge of the river Big Almatinka, at height of 2511 m above sea level, 28.5 km South of Almaty. It is situated in the cavity like a shining mirror, surrounded on all sides by mountain peaks. Above the lake rise the three main peaks, the peak Councils (4 317 m), lake peak (4 110 m) and the peak Tourist (3 954 m) – they can be seen from the North end of the dam. To the West from the peak of Tourist is the crest of the Big Almaty peak (a pyramid with a height of 681 m 3), which is clearly visible from the city centre. 3

Ascension Cathedral The construction of the Turkestan Cathedral in Pushkin Park was begun in 1904 under the Bishop of Turkestan and Tashkent Paisii (Vinogradov). The Cathedral was designed by local architects: Konstantin Abramovich Boris and Sergey Konstantinovich Troparevski. General supervision of the construction was carried out by the regional engineer Andrei Pavlovich Zenkov. Ascension Cathedral in Almaty is built in 1907. The Cathedral has three altars: the Central consecrated in memory of the feast of the ascension, South of the Annunciation, and North of Faith, Hope and charity and their mother Sophia, considered the patrons of Semirechye. 3
